A joyful wedding celebration turned tragic in Panipat, northern India, when a six-year-old girl was allegedly drowned by her aunt, who reportedly suffered from deep-seated jealousy over the child’s beauty. The victim, identified as Vidhi, was attending the family event when she suddenly went missing, leading to a frantic search that ended in horror.
According to local reports, Poonam, the accused aunt, confessed to killing Vidhi by submerging her in a tub of water during the ceremony. Vidhi had been at the wedding with her father, mother, 10-month-old brother, and grandmother, Omwati. The atmosphere shifted dramatically when Vidhi’s father received a distressing call informing him that his daughter had disappeared. Family members quickly organized a search party, and after an hour, her grandmother found Vidhi’s body in a nearby storeroom, submerged in water.
Despite being rushed to NC Medical College, medical personnel could not revive the young girl. The shocking incident has drawn significant media attention, with local authorities expressing horror at the circumstances surrounding her death. Superintendent of Police Bhupender Singh described Poonam as exhibiting psychopathic tendencies, stating, “The accused appears to be a psychopath. She believed no child in her family should be more beautiful than her.”
The investigation has revealed that this tragic event may not have been an isolated incident. Poonam is also suspected of having murdered three other children, including her own son and another niece, both of whom reportedly drowned under similar circumstances. Disturbingly, she is believed to have killed a young girl in nearby Siwah this August for the same reason—envy over beauty.
Currently, Poonam is being held in custody without formal charges. Authorities are conducting a thorough investigation into her past actions and the motivations behind these alleged crimes.
In a separate and equally tragic occurrence, wedding guests were left in shock when a groom collapsed and died during his reception. The groom, identified as Ashraf, had been dancing with his bride when he suddenly fell to the floor. Despite immediate assistance from guests, he could not be revived. Doctors later confirmed that the cause of death was a heart attack. Video footage captured the couple joyfully celebrating moments before the incident, highlighting the abrupt shift from joy to tragedy on what should have been a day of happiness.
Both incidents highlight the deep emotional and psychological challenges that can arise within families and communities, leaving lasting effects on those involved. As investigations continue, the focus remains on supporting the grieving families and understanding the underlying issues that led to such devastating outcomes.
