The new MDC USA XT9 Off-Grid Extreme Edition camping trailer has been introduced, combining compact size with impressive off-road capabilities. This trailer is designed for those who seek adventure beyond conventional camping sites, offering a versatile option for outdoor exploration without requiring a large vehicle.
The XT9 is a significant upgrade from MDC’s Forte 9 Plus, enhancing off-grid living with a robust electrical system. Measuring approximately 14 inches shorter and 13 inches wider than a 2026 Toyota 4Runner, and standing at just 93 inches tall, this trailer is easy to store while still providing ample functionality for off-road enthusiasts.
Innovative Design and Features
One of the standout features of the XT9 is its independent trailing arm suspension system, known as the X-Track system. Unlike many competitors that utilize a beam axle, this design incorporates coil springs paired with dual Tough Trax HD shocks on each side, allowing the trailer to navigate rugged terrains smoothly. The trailer also includes the heavy-duty MDC Mega Hub, featuring 12-inch electromagnetic brake drums, 14-mm wheel studs, and durable Timken bearings, ensuring reliability on challenging paths.
The all-aluminum frame and composite aluminum body panels contribute to the trailer’s lightweight structure, tipping the scales at just 3,300 pounds when dry. This weight is well within the towing capacity for many smaller vehicles. Additionally, the XT9 comes equipped with a 270-degree awning, a pop-up roof, a complete kitchen setup, and a Renogy Rego 12-volt 400-amp-hour lithium iron phosphate battery paired with a triple 175-watt solar panel system, providing substantial off-grid power.
For added convenience, the XT9 features a wireless rearview camera with a seven-inch portable screen, addressing visibility concerns while towing.
Off-Grid Capabilities and Comfort
The primary focus of the XT9 is its ability to support off-grid living, setting it apart from its predecessor. The Renogy solar system can generate up to 3 kW of power through a pure sine-wave inverter. It seamlessly transitions between solar energy and shore power via a Renogy DCC50S MPPT 50-amp charge controller, ensuring users can maintain power connectivity as needed. The trailer’s total battery capacity reaches 4.8 kW, monitored via Bluetooth for user convenience.
To ensure comfort in all weather conditions, especially during colder months, the XT9 includes a Cold Weather Pack as standard. This package features Truma Combi heating pads for the 31-gallon freshwater tank, insulated water lines, a Renogy battery heater, tinted dual-pane windows, and a Truma Combi interior heating system with a capacity of 14,300 BTU/hr. An outdoor heated shower with an attachable tent further enhances the camping experience.
The MDC XT9 Off-Grid Extreme Edition is currently available for order, starting at a price of $59,999. This places it competitively within the market, being just $49 more than the Forte 9 Plus and nearly $10,000 less than the Mammoth Overland ELE.
For those interested in seeing the XT9 in person, it will be showcased at two upcoming events: the Idaho Sportsman Show at Expo Idaho in Boise on March 5 and at the Overland Expo SoCal on March 14 at the OC Fair and Event Center in Costa Mesa, California.
The launch of the MDC XT9 presents an exciting option for camping enthusiasts looking for a compact yet capable trailer that supports off-grid adventures.
