Sutter Health Secures $21.7M Land for $145M Care Complex

Sutter Health has finalized the purchase of a parcel of land in Folsom, California, for approximately $21.7 million. This acquisition paves the way for the development of the Folsom Care Complex, a significant outpatient facility projected to cost around $145 million. The three-story complex will span 106,500 square feet and is expected to enhance healthcare access in the region when it opens its doors in the fall of 2027.

The land transaction was recorded in city documents in late January, confirming Sutter Health’s ownership of the Broadstone site. According to the Sacramento Business Journal, the purchase price reflects the ongoing commitment of Sutter Health to expand its services in the Highway 50 corridor. The parcel, located at 1565 Cavitt Drive, changed hands for approximately $21.742 million late last year, as indicated by real estate listings and tax histories from platforms such as Redfin.

Features of the Folsom Care Complex

Sutter Health outlines that the Folsom Care Complex will include a state-of-the-art Advanced Cancer Center, equipped for both infusion and radiation therapy. Additionally, the facility will feature a same-day outpatient surgery center and expanded primary and urgent care services. This new campus aims to attract more medical specialists to the area, significantly reducing the need for patients to travel to Sacramento or Roseville for necessary treatments.

The planning documents categorize the complex as part of the Broadstone Crossing Phase II initiative, which designates the site for office and medical use. The development plan divides the property into three distinct buildings, with the medical facility being the most substantial structure.

Local Community Impact and Infrastructure Development

Elliott Homes, the developer involved in the project, has committed to funding essential infrastructure improvements to accommodate increased traffic. This includes an upfront deposit intended to expedite the design of an East Bidwell pedestrian bridge. These enhancements are crucial for managing the anticipated congestion around the Palladio area as activity at the medical campus increases.

Current building permit filings indicate that contractors are progressing with site preparation, including early steel work and foundation laying. The Sacramento Business Journal reports that Sutter Health now officially holds the title to the land, with construction expected to transition into shell work in the coming months. Once completed, the Folsom Care Complex is set to provide extensive medical services and a roster of specialists, greatly benefiting the local population.

As construction continues, residents and commuters in the area are likely to monitor the impact on local traffic and roadwork developments. Sutter Health’s ambitious plan aims to enhance healthcare access for the community, with patient services slated to begin in the fall of 2027.
