URGENT UPDATE: Bordentown’s Cole Rosina ignited the Scotties to a thrilling 3-1 victory over Westampton Tech in a critical boys’ soccer showdown on October 17, 2023. This fierce battle took place at Bordentown and highlighted both teams as champions of their respective divisions in the Burlington County Scholastic League.
The match began with a tense first half that ended scoreless. However, Bordentown quickly shifted gears in the second half. Rosina seized the moment, scoring twice within minutes to secure the win. “I was just thinking ‘on frame.’ Everything. On frame,” Rosina stated after the game, emphasizing the importance of focus in high-pressure situations.
In the 51st minute, after a corner kick from Marco Carlini, Rosina found the ball at his feet following a deflection off Westampton Tech’s goalkeeper, Viggo Wronski. With a swift, decisive shot, he put Bordentown ahead 1-0. However, the lead was short-lived; just 11 minutes later, Westampton Tech’s Tristen Dickerson launched a long throw that led to a volley from Youssou Diop, leveling the score at 1-1.
Bordentown fought back fiercely, with Tyler Kunkel nearly scoring a second goal, only to be thwarted by Wronski’s remarkable save. But the Scotties regained the upper hand when Rosina netted his second goal with just under 5 minutes remaining in the match. “The clock was running down and we needed it,” Rosina said, reflecting the urgency of the moment.
Kunkel later added another goal for Bordentown, marking his 13th of the season, sealing the victory at 3-1. “Once we scored that first goal, they would keep coming. We’re a hard-working team,” Kunkel remarked, showcasing the relentless spirit of the Scotties.
This victory improved Bordentown’s record to 13-1, solidifying their dominance in the BCSL Patriot Division. In contrast, Westampton Tech fell to 13-4, despite a commendable performance. Coach Shane Lesher praised his team’s growth, stating, “We have a little bit more talent than in years past… They believe in themselves, they want to win.”
As the season progresses, both teams are set to face more challenges ahead. Bordentown will look to maintain momentum, while Westampton Tech aims to leverage this experience to strengthen their resolve.
