UPDATE: In a heartwarming initiative, Dayton Children’s Hospital is celebrating the spirit of “Wicked: For Good” by dressing newborns in charming costumes inspired by the beloved musical. This unique event is bringing joy to families navigating challenging times in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).
The costumes, which include characters like Glinda, Elphaba, the Tin Man, Scarecrow, and Cowardly Lion, are part of a special celebration coinciding with the movie’s early premiere on November 17, 2023. Video content featuring discussions from author Gregory Maguire highlights the significance of this uplifting experience.
Families are embracing these delightful moments, with one mother, Brittany, sharing, “It means the world. It’s nice for us to do things that normal parents would do with their babies—seeing people celebrating your child.”
The outfits, though tiny, create a massive impact, offering a sense of normalcy during some of the most emotional periods in a parent’s life. One standout costume featured a baby dressed as Glinda, complete with a crown and pink dress, reminiscent of Ariana Grande, who portrays the character in the film.
Additionally, a group of babies dressed as Dorothy and her friends were spotted, including a Tin Man and Cowardly Lion, embodying the adventure of following the yellow brick road.
This feel-good initiative comes as “Wicked: For Good” has already made waves at the box office, grossing over $30.8 million in its opening weekend in the U.S. and surpassing $150 million domestically and $228 million globally.
This event is more than just a costume display; it’s a reminder of hope and joy amidst uncertainty. As the hospital continues to support families during these tough times, the impact of such thoughtful gestures cannot be overstated.
Stay tuned for more updates on both the film’s success and the ongoing heartwarming stories from Dayton Children’s Hospital.
