Vintage 1960 Chevrolet Impala Stolen in Imperial Beach

The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department is seeking assistance from the public in identifying a suspect involved in the theft of a vintage car from an Imperial Beach neighborhood. The incident occurred around 02:00 on October 21, 2023, in the 500 block of Calle Avenue.

The stolen vehicle is a red 1960 Chevrolet Impala, which bears the California license plate JCL527. According to the Imperial Beach Sheriff’s Substation, the classic car was parked on the street when the theft took place. Surveillance footage captured the suspect pushing the vehicle away from the location, highlighting the need for public vigilance.

Details of the Theft and Suspect Description

Authorities describe the suspect as wearing a dark-colored hooded sweater, dark pants, and white shoes. While the quality of the surveillance footage is not optimal, investigators remain hopeful that someone in the area during the early hours of that morning may recognize the individual or have additional information that could aid in recovering the stolen Impala.

The theft of vintage cars is not uncommon, and the value of classic vehicles can be significant. The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department urges anyone who has information regarding the theft, the identity of the suspect, or the whereabouts of the car to come forward.

Individuals can contact the Imperial Beach Sheriff’s Substation directly at 619-498-2400. For those who wish to remain anonymous, tips can also be submitted through San Diego County Crime Stoppers.

As the investigation continues, the community is reminded to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity, especially concerning classic vehicles that are often targeted by thieves.
