Children Among 15 Rescued from Suspected Arson Fires in Beersheba

Fifteen individuals, including children and infants, were rescued from smoke-filled apartments in Beersheba following a series of suspected arson attacks on November 20, 2025. This incident involved fires erupting in nine residential buildings, prompting a significant response from Israel’s Fire and Rescue Authority.

Firefighters were alerted to the emergency during the early hours of Wednesday morning. Upon arrival, they worked swiftly to extinguish flames that had engulfed building lobbies and electrical cabinets. The fires were reported across multiple streets, including Aliyah Street, Derech Shimshon Street, Rabbi Uziel Street, Tabenkin Street, Tel Hai Street, Derech Hameshachrerim, Hogla Street, Moriah Street, and Radak Square.

Israel’s Fire and Rescue Authority stated that the 15 rescued individuals were subsequently taken for medical care due to smoke inhalation. Firefighters executed a meticulous search of the affected properties to locate residents who may have been trapped inside. They advised those stuck to block smoke from entering their rooms by placing wet rags around doors and windows and to stay in interior spaces until help arrived.

A 16-year-old Jewish minor has been arrested on suspicion of involvement in the arson incidents, according to the Fire and Rescue Authority. The investigation into the cause of the fires is ongoing, and authorities are working to assess the full extent of the damage and the motivations behind the attacks.

This troubling series of events highlights the risks posed by suspected arson in residential areas. The swift response from emergency services likely prevented further injuries and potential loss of life. As the investigation unfolds, the community remains on alert, seeking answers and reassurance in the aftermath of this alarming incident.
