UPDATE: A shocking DUI crash unfolded on October 26 at 1:46 p.m. on Interstate 280 in San Jose, sending a truck flying off a freeway ramp and into oncoming traffic. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that four people were involved, including a child, when a Chevy pickup failed to navigate the turn at the I-280 interchange.
Eyewitness video from @sanjoseactivities_ on Instagram captures the moment the truck launched off a grassy embankment, landing perilously in front of southbound traffic on I-280. A Honda, occupied by a man, woman, and child, struck the truck as it slammed into the freeway’s center divider, scattering debris across both directions of traffic. Fortunately, no other vehicles were directly involved.
The driver of the pickup, a 40-year-old man from San Jose, suffered moderate injuries and was promptly hospitalized. The woman in the Honda sustained minor injuries, while the child was reported unharmed. CHP confirmed that the pickup driver was driving under the influence (DUI) at the time of the crash and has since been arrested for DUI.
This incident underscores the ongoing dangers of impaired driving and its potential for catastrophic consequences. Authorities are urging drivers to remain vigilant and avoid alcohol consumption before getting behind the wheel.
As investigations continue, the community is left reeling from the dramatic events of this afternoon. Stay tuned for further updates as more information becomes available.
