Remarkably, she has shown extraordinary resilience, progressing to the point where she could breathe independently.
Mayor Jacob Frey shared the heartwarming moment on social media, stating, “Welcome home, Sophia. Minneapolis loves you.” Video footage captured the outpouring of support, with residents waving signs and balloons in jubilation.
After her discharge from Gillette Children’s Hospital, where she underwent rehabilitation, Sophia made a heartfelt visit to Hennepin Healthcare to express her gratitude to the first responders who cared for her. Hospital staff welcomed her with hugs and a blue sign reading “Sophia Strong.” The hospital commended her, saying, “She has inspired so many of us and this day is truly a reason to celebrate.”
Sophia’s journey has sparked a wave of emotional support across the community. Family representatives noted her determination, stating, “The road ahead for Sophia is steep, but she is climbing it with fierce determination. She is fighting not just for herself but for every soul who stood by her in prayer.”
As she prepares to celebrate her 13th birthday, her story serves as a powerful reminder of hope and resilience in the face of unimaginable adversity. The community continues to rally around her, demonstrating the strength of unity in a time of tragedy.
