Skyports Infrastructure and the Dubai Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) have achieved a significant milestone in the development of the world’s first commercial vertiport, known as DXV. The recent ceremonial “topping-out” event marked the completion of the structure’s highest point. Located adjacent to Dubai International Airport, the DXV vertiport is now 60 percent complete, with construction expected to conclude in the first quarter of 2026.
Upon its launch, the vertiport will support flights operated by Joby Aviation’s S4 electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, with commercial services anticipated to commence in 2026. As the central hub of the Dubai Vertiport Network, DXV is designed to handle a high volume of air traffic, allowing for approximately 42,000 aircraft movements and serving around 170,000 passengers annually.
Advanced Features and Connectivity
The DXV facility includes two dedicated take-off and landing areas, outfitted with state-of-the-art technologies to accommodate eVTOL operations. This includes fast-charging infrastructure and safety equipment that meets the highest global aviation standards. Additionally, the vertiport is capable of accommodating conventional helicopter traffic.
Spanning four floors and covering a footprint of 3,100 square meters, the passenger terminal is designed to enhance the user experience. Features include automated electronic check-in, advanced security screening, a premium lounge, and briefing rooms. To facilitate seamless transfers between air and ground transport, the development also includes a multi-deck car park and is within walking distance of the Emirates metro station.
The topping-out ceremony saw attendance from key figures including Duncan Walker, CEO of Skyports, Bonny Simi, COO of Joby Aviation, and Ahmed Hashem Bahrozyan, CEO of the Public Transport Agency at RTA.
Vision for Urban Air Mobility
Duncan Walker underscored the importance of vertiports in the realm of Advanced Air Mobility (AAM), stating, “With DXV reaching this pivotal milestone… we’re seeing AAM history in the making.” He added that Dubai is positioning itself as a leader in commercial AAM, facilitating ultra-fast, zero-emission travel that could transform urban transportation.
Echoing this sentiment, Ahmed Hashem Bahrozyan highlighted the vertiport’s role in launching the world’s first aerial taxi service. He remarked, “This milestone reflects Dubai’s commitment to transforming mobility through innovation, efficiency, and seamless integration across all modes of transportation.” Bahrozyan emphasized that the initiative aims to offer faster and safer journeys while enhancing the overall customer experience.
As the DXV project progresses, it is clear that the collaboration between Skyports and the RTA is poised to redefine urban air travel, setting a benchmark for future developments in the advanced air mobility sector.
