The weekend’s games highlighted the skills of emerging athletes and established teams alike, with several ranked schools solidifying their positions as top contenders.
De La Salle and Pittsburg Dominate Their Opponents
In a commanding display, No. 1 De La Salle triumphed over No. 11 California with a decisive score of 52-14. The California state 100-meter dash champion, Jaden Jefferson, electrified the crowd by returning the opening kickoff for a 99-yard touchdown and adding two more scores before halftime. De La Salle improved its record to 9-0, establishing itself as a formidable force in high school football.
Meanwhile, No. 3 Pittsburg secured a dominant 42-0 victory against Freedom. The Pirates scored all their points before halftime, with quarterback Carlos Torres throwing three touchdown passes. Notably, defensive lineman Jacob Mejia intercepted a pass in the first quarter, setting the tone for the game. Pittsburg now holds a record of 8-1 overall and 4-0 in the Bay Valley Athletic League.
Exciting Matchups and Surprising Upsets
In another thrilling encounter, No. 4 Acalanes clinched the Diablo Athletic League Foothill Division title by defeating No. 15 Clayton Valley Charter 31-14. A standout performance came from Josh Elerts, who rushed for 134 yards on 35 carries, while Tyler Winkles passed for 210 yards.
Los Gatos continued its unbeaten run in the Peninsula Athletic League Bay Division, routing Menlo-Atherton 56-13. Quarterback Callum Schweitzer completed all seven of his passes for 170 yards before sitting out the second half, showcasing Los Gatos’s offensive strength.
In a surprising upset, Amador Valley stunned No. 10 Monte Vista with a score of 35-14. Anthony Harrington was a key player, catching eight passes for 215 yards, including two long touchdown receptions of 53 and 82 yards.
The weekend also featured No. 16 Campolindo defeating Las Lomas 21-7, with a key touchdown pass from Reid Habas to Everett Zellmer helping secure the win. Campolindo improved to 7-2 overall.
In the East Bay, Hayward continued its push for the West Alameda County Conference Mission Division title, overpowering Irvington 53-8. Quarterback Jaydyn Irving threw three touchdown passes, while Maurice Hall contributed significantly with 76 yards and two rushing touchdowns.
The Colts of James Logan maintained their momentum in the Foothill Division, defeating Bishop O’Dowd 17-0, propelled by a pick-six and a touchdown reception by Jeramiyah Cotton. Logan is now just one win away from securing the Foothill crown.
