Community Mourns the Loss of Stanley D. Petchulis at 90

Stanley D. Petchulis, a beloved member of the Mar Lin community, passed away peacefully at the age of 90 on August 24, 2025. He spent his final moments at home, surrounded by family, marking the end of a life dedicated to service, family, and local business.

Born on August 2, 1935, in Mar Lin, he was the son of the late Stanislaus and Ella (Komorosky) Petchulis. After graduating from Pottsville High School, he served for six years in the U.S. Army, where he was part of the esteemed 82nd Airborne unit while stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

A Life of Service and Community Engagement

On June 18, 1961, Stanley married June Romain Petchulis, and together they celebrated an impressive 64 years of marriage. The couple owned and operated Mar Lin Markets, contributing significantly to the local economy and community spirit.

Stanley’s involvement extended beyond business. He was an active member of the Blue Mountain K Lions Club and the Mar Lin American Legion. He also served as a director of Union Savings & Loan in Minersville and held various roles in investment clubs. His commitment to public service was evident during his tenure as a supervisor in Norwegian Township.

Stanley was a devoted member of the SS Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church in Mount Carmel and a former member of St. Francis of Assisi RCC in Minersville. He regularly attended services at Holy Savior RCC in Ocean City, Maryland.

A Passion for Baseball and Family

Beyond his community involvement, Stanley had a profound love for baseball. His interests ranged from collecting cards to passionately discussing players, particularly his favorite, Ted Williams. He cherished the moments spent with his grandchildren, often sharing jokes and enjoying a morning routine that included reading the newspaper with a cup of black coffee and a lottery ticket.

Stanley is survived by his wife, June, along with seven children, 15 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. His family includes:

  • Ian Albert Petchulis and fiancée Kristen Kufrovich, with son Jordan;
  • Stacey Petchulis Bosack and husband Thomas, with daughter Hannah and sons David, Max, and Ethen George;
  • Stephen Petchulis and wife Dorothy, with son Dane;
  • Michael Miller and wife Stephanie, with daughter Marissa (husband Steve) and sons Michael (wife Kaitlyn) and Myles;
  • Stanley Petchulis III and wife Terri, with daughter Sarah and son Stanley Petchulis IV (wife Liz Killian Petchulis);
  • Marcella and husband Ralph, with daughter Paige and son Isaac Thomas;
  • Bradley Petchulis and wife Cindy, with sons Bradley Jr. and Edward.

Stanley was fondly remembered by his family for his humor and warmth, encapsulated in the phrase, “Baddest man in the whole damned town,” a nod to the song by Jim Croce. His family expressed their love and grief, stating, “We love and miss you, Stan!”

A burial service with military honors will be held on September 1, 2025, at 9:30 AM at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville. A funeral procession will depart at 8:00 AM from Mar Lin Markets, located at 302 Beechwood Ave, Mar Lin, PA 17951. Arrangements are entrusted to Dutcavich Funeral Home & Cremation Care Inc..
