Boys and Girls Clubs of Copperas Cove Celebrate Kids and Community

The Boys and Girls Clubs of Copperas Cove hosted its fourth annual Day for Kids event on September 23, 2023, featuring a car show and the grand opening of the Hearts Renewed Counseling Center. The event drew families from across the community, showcasing the club’s commitment to youth engagement and support.

Khrystal Westeen, the Unit Director of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Copperas Cove, expressed her gratitude for the turnout despite competing events in the area, including the Heritage Festival and a local block party. “Even with all the other events that are happening in Copperas Cove today, the city still came out to support us,” Westeen noted. Her appreciation extended to the public figures and city representatives in attendance, including City Council members Vonya Hart and Dale Treadway, as well as former school board member Inez Faison, who has been one of the club’s largest donors.

The Day for Kids event featured a variety of attractions aimed at engaging the youth. Outside, a lineup of cars attracted adult attendees, while children enjoyed activities such as a soapy foam party provided by Magic Display, a petting zoo, and a bounce house. Inside the main building, families participated in raffles, crafts, face painting, and a Lego building station.

The event marked not only a celebration of children but also served as a crucial fundraising opportunity for the organization. Westeen emphasized the impact of the funds raised, stating, “Everything we do, all the money we raise, goes back to the kids. It’s to help encourage people to come out and spend time with their families.” This year’s car show is considered one of the club’s largest fundraisers, supporting ongoing programs for local youth.

The grand opening of the Hearts Renewed Counseling Center was another highlight of the day. This facility aims to provide essential support services to families and children in need, reflecting the club’s broader mission of fostering a nurturing environment for the community. The presence of local leaders and community members at the event reinforces the collaborative spirit that defines Copperas Cove.

As the Day for Kids concluded, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Copperas Cove demonstrated its vital role in the community, not only through fun activities but also through meaningful support for youth development. The event successfully brought together families and local leaders, reinforcing the importance of community involvement in nurturing future generations.
