On March 25, 2024, NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull celebrated the inauguration of its newly renovated hemodialysis unit. This modern facility, spanning approximately 3,500 square feet, aims to enhance both patient comfort and clinical efficiency, marking a significant advancement in patient care in Brooklyn.
Upgraded Facilities for Enhanced Patient Care
The redesigned hemodialysis suite features a fully reconfigured layout designed to optimize patient flow. It includes four dedicated hemodialysis bays, expanded utility and equipment rooms, and upgraded lighting and infrastructure. Additionally, the installation of improved heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, along with advanced water treatment technologies, enhances reliability and safety for patients.
Althea Senior-Morris, Chief Nursing Officer at NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull, emphasized the dual purpose of the new unit. “This area, in addition to being a life-sustaining treatment space, is also a place where our patients can receive compassionate, high-quality care in a setting that truly supports their needs,” she stated.
Hospital leaders expressed that the renovation is part of a broader commitment to elevate the standard of care from “good to great.” They highlighted the suite’s calming design and modern equipment as essential components in providing life-sustaining treatments in a dignified manner.
Commitment to Community Health
The opening of this hemodialysis unit is not merely a physical enhancement; it signifies a transformative step for the nursing staff and the community. According to Verden Browne, RN and Director of Nursing for Medical-Surgical Units/Hemodialysis at Woodhull, “This new space will allow us to continue delivering high-quality, life-saving care for our patients and the community we serve.”
Browne added that the staff is enthusiastic about the opportunity to provide advanced treatment options while fostering a supportive environment for both patients and their families. “We are excited to offer a space that combines advanced treatments and practices, patient and family education with compassion, while helping patients through every step of their medical journey,” he said.
This renovation exemplifies Woodhull’s dedication to meeting the health needs of Brooklyn residents and enhancing the quality of care in the region. Through this investment in infrastructure and patient experience, NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull aims to set a new standard for hemodialysis treatment in New York City.
