Citizen Advocacy of Phoenixville is set to host its 39th annual run in Chester County on October 25, 2025. This event provides an opportunity for runners to contribute to a cause that significantly impacts lives within the local community.
A Celebration of Community Spirit
Alicia DeMont, the Executive Director of Citizen Advocacy, expressed her honor in organizing the event. “The Phoenixville Run has always been more than just a 5K and 10K race event — it’s a celebration of community spirit, generosity, and connection,” DeMont stated. Over the years, she has witnessed tremendous support from volunteers, participants, and local businesses, which she believes are vital for the event’s success.
Last year, Citizen Advocacy was recognized as the 2025 Nonprofit of the Year by the Phoenixville Regional Chamber of Commerce, underscoring its impact on the community. “This event simply wouldn’t be possible without them,” DeMont added, highlighting the commitment of Phoenixville residents.
Fostering Life-Changing Relationships
The mission of Citizen Advocacy focuses on building enduring relationships between volunteer advocates and individuals with disabilities. “For over 40 years, Citizen Advocacy has fostered long-term relationships that provide protection, connection, and opportunity,” DeMont explained. Advocates often involve their own family and friends, helping to create community engagement and access to necessary resources.
One inspiring story comes from Joe Robins and Nick Sproll, who were matched through Citizen Advocacy. Their initial outings, which included mini-golf and ice cream, evolved into a deeper friendship that led them to deliver food through PACS (Phoenixville Area Community Service). Their dedication culminated in the creation of a nonprofit to support other local organizations.
DeMont anticipates more than 200 participants for this year’s run, alongside an informal kids’ fun run. “We expect over 80 volunteers to ensure the safety of runners on the courses,” she noted. This family-friendly event not only encourages physical activity but also fosters a sense of togetherness in the community.
Even those who are not running or volunteering are invited to cheer on participants, meet Mayor Peter Urscheler, and explore offerings from local vendors. “Come see why Phoenixville is such a vibrant community — all while supporting the important mission of Citizen Advocacy,” DeMont encouraged.
