The 12th annual Ohana FitFest, a family-oriented 5K obstacle course run/walk, is set to take place on September 27, 2023, in Princeville. Organized by North Shore Give, this event aims to combine fitness and fun, while raising funds to support health and fitness programs in local schools.
Participants can register online at www.ohanafitfest.com. This year’s event features obstacles designed for all ages and fitness levels, welcoming seasoned runners, casual walkers, and families alike. Sponsorship opportunities are also available for local businesses looking to contribute to the community.
Event chair Ken Rosenthal, who is a board member of North Shore Give and chair of its Health and Wellness Committee, emphasized the event’s community spirit. “Ohana FitFest is more than a run or walk. It is one big, joyful celebration of community,” he stated. “This is an opportunity for families and friends—whether you live here or are visiting—to laugh, climb, crawl, and cheer each other on while supporting programs that keep our keiki healthy and strong.”
Over the years, the Ohana FitFest has made significant contributions to local educational institutions. Last year, the event, in partnership with the Kauai North Shore Community Foundation, donated $15,000 to Kilauea Elementary School and Hanalei Elementary School. Since its inception, more than $120,000 has been distributed to various nonprofit organizations, including Kauai Christian Academy, Homeschool of Kauai, Kanuikapono Charter School, and Anaina Hou.
Participants in this year’s event will receive a complimentary Ohana FitFest hat and a ticket for random giveaways. Prizes include golf at Princeville Makai Golf Club, dining experiences at AMA Hanalei and Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa, as well as tickets to the Anaina Hou Ahi Lele Fire Show, among others.
To kick off the festivities, event packet pickup and a Happy Hour will be held on September 26 from 15:00 to 18:00 at the Makai Grill, located at the Makai Golf Club. The event will feature hula performances by Kauai legends Bev Kauanui and Haunani Kaui. Participants will receive their race bibs, hats, and tickets during this time.
On the day of the Ohana FitFest, activities will commence with registration and check-in starting at 06:30 and concluding at 08:00 with a traditional pule (prayer). Notably, the Start and Finish lines, as well as event staging, will take place at the Princeville Disc Course on Lei O Papa Road this year. Awards and prizes will be presented at 10:30.
