Voting Opens for MTV VMAs Ahead of Live Show at UBS Arena

Voting for the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) is officially open as the award show prepares for its return to UBS Arena on September 7, 2023. Artists and celebrities will gather at the venue, which hosted the VMAs for the first time last year, to celebrate influential contributions to the music industry. The event will be broadcast live starting at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT on CBS, with a simulcast on MTV and streaming available on Paramount+ in the United States.

This year, Lady Gaga leads the nominations with an impressive total of 12 across several categories, including Video of the Year, Artist of the Year, and Best Album. Following closely are Bruno Mars with 11 nominations and Kendrick Lamar with 10. Other notable nominees include ROSÉ and Sabrina Carpenter with 8 each, and Ariana Grande and The Weeknd with 7 each.

New Categories and Voting Details

First-time nominees this year include ROSÉ, who is receiving solo nominations for the first time with 8, as well as Alex Warren and Gigi Perez, each with 3. Other new contenders include Bailey Zimmerman, Blake Shelton, and Megan Moroney, among many others.

Newly introduced categories for this year include Best Country and Best Pop Artist. The finalists for Song of the Year will be announced on August 18. Fans can vote by commenting under pinned posts on the @VMAs Instagram page using artist-specific hashtags until August 8 at 6 p.m. ET.

Additionally, voters can earn double votes during the “Power Hour” presented by BACARDÍ® Rum, which will occur daily from 1-2 p.m. ET from August 7 through September 4. Voting will close on September 5 for all categories except for Best New Artist, which will remain open until the live show.
