Nintendo hosted a live-streamed Direct presentation on August 7, 2023, showcasing a range of indie games slated for the original Switch console and the upcoming Switch 2. The event, titled Indie World, featured several highly anticipated titles, including the action-adventure game Mina the Hollower and the life simulation game Neverway.
The presentation opened with a captivating gameplay trailer for Mina the Hollower, developed by Yacht Club Games, known for the critically acclaimed title Shovel Knight. Players will take on the role of Mina, who embarks on a challenging mission to save a cursed island. The game is scheduled for release on October 31, 2025, and a demo is currently available for players to experience.
In contrast, Neverway offers a unique blend of life simulation and horror elements. Players will guide Fiona, who leaves her unsatisfying job to operate a farm, eventually becoming the immortal herald of a dead god. Coldblood Inc., the studio behind this debut title, was co-founded by the pixel artist known for Celeste and Towerfall. Set to launch in 2026, the game also features an original soundtrack by Disasterpeace.
The presentation also highlighted Herdling, a game from the publishers of Firewatch, which tasks players with herding mysterious creatures into mountainous regions. Herdling will be available on the Switch and Switch 2 on August 21, 2023.
Another notable title, Glaciered, transports players 65 million years into the future, where they control a Tuai, a unique marine creature exploring glacier-covered underwater worlds. This game is expected to be a timed console exclusive for the Switch 2, launching this winter.
Additionally, the presentation included several other exciting titles. Strange Antiquities, a follow-up to Strange Horticulture, will launch on September 27, 2023. The critically acclaimed collection of 2-D games, UFO 50, was released on the same day, alongside the simulation game Tiny Bookshop.
With a diverse lineup of indie games, Nintendo continues to engage its audience and expand its offerings for both the original Switch and the anticipated Switch 2. As fans eagerly await these releases, the Indie World presentation has set the stage for an exciting future in gaming.
