The second annual Bewitching Broadway event took place on October 25, 2025, in Lorain, Ohio, bringing together families and community members for a spirited evening of trick-or-treating. This popular event transformed Broadway into a festive space where local businesses engaged with guests, offering candy and showcasing their unique storefronts.
Organized by local business owners, including Elizabeth Yelenic of Unruly Salon & Spa and Sergio Hernandez, the event aimed to foster community spirit while promoting local enterprises. “I think it’s come together really well,” Yelenic remarked, highlighting the collaborative effort that made the event successful.
The turnout was impressive, with families flocking to Broadway shortly after the event began. Children in costumes eagerly engaged with special guests, including members of the Lorain High School cheerleading team, who welcomed attendees and created a lively atmosphere. Hernandez noted the positive energy from the previous year’s event contributed to an even larger turnout in 2025, stating, “We feel the same joy. We’re happy that people are participating and that they’re excited.”
Community Engagement and Business Promotion
As part of the festivities, guests were encouraged to vote for their favorite decorated storefronts, many of which featured autumn and Halloween themes. The Lorain Fire Department also added to the event’s charm with a firetruck on display, further enhancing the family-friendly environment.
Hernandez, who co-owns 737 Broadway with his wife, Erika, expressed optimism about the event’s impact on local businesses. “It’s actually encouraging,” he said. “It’s a really good opportunity not just for Lorain, but for the local businesses to shed light on their business.” The collaboration among business owners was evident, as they utilized sidewalk space to distribute candy, inviting parents and adults inside to learn more about their offerings.
The initial motivation behind Bewitching Broadway was to create a fun, family-oriented event that would also spotlight local businesses. Hernandez emphasized the importance of community support, stating, “Thank you to Lorain for all the support, and the community for all the support. We’re going to continue to do this and try to make it as big as possible.”
As the evening unfolded, it became clear that Bewitching Broadway is not just a seasonal celebration but a testament to the strength of community bonds in Lorain. With plans to expand and improve in future years, this event promises to remain a highlight on the local calendar, uniting families and businesses in a shared celebration of Halloween spirit and community pride.
