Metallus, a prominent player in the specialty metals industry, has reached an agreement with the United Steelworkers (USW) Local 1123 to extend their existing contract, which is set to expire on September 29, 2025. This extension allows both parties to continue their negotiations in the hope of achieving a satisfactory resolution. The new expiration date for the contract extension is October 15, 2025.
Progress in Negotiations
According to Mike Williams, the chief executive officer of Metallus, discussions have been constructive thus far. Williams stated, “Negotiations are progressing constructively. We remain focused on reaching a collaborative agreement that supports the long-term success of the company and meets the needs of all stakeholders.”
Approximately 1,200 bargaining employees are covered under the current agreement at Metallus’s operations in Canton, Ohio. This workforce plays a crucial role in the company’s operations, which include manufacturing high-performance specialty metals for various sectors, including industrial, automotive, aerospace, defense, and energy.
