The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced a series of weeknight lane closures on I-476, impacting traffic as part of a significant $63.7 million project aimed at resurfacing and repairing nearly 17 miles of the interstate. This initiative will enhance the stretch of highway between the I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) in West Conshohocken and I-95 in Ridley Township, Delaware County.
Starting from September 2, 2023, and continuing through October 3, 2023, lane closures will occur on weekdays from 20:00 to 05:00 in both directions. Work will take place on sections of I-476 situated between the I-76 and I-95 interchanges. The planned activities include milling, paving, bridge and guiderail repairs, pipe replacement, and line striping.
Scope of the Project
The extensive project not only focuses on resurfacing but also encompasses repairs to 49 structures and improvements to 21 stormwater management basins. Additional work involves sound wall maintenance, inlet replacements, and the installation of new pavement markings, rumble strips, signage, and guiderail.
PennDOT advises motorists to anticipate increased travel times, as traffic backups and delays are likely in the work zones. All scheduled activities are weather dependent, meaning conditions could affect the timeline of the project.
H&K Group, Inc., based in Skippack, PA, has been designated as the general contractor for this project, which is fully federally funded.
Traffic Updates and Information
For those looking to avoid congestion, PennDOT recommends checking the MyChesCo Traffic Center for real-time updates on lane closures, detours, and current road conditions.
As this project progresses, motorists are urged to remain vigilant and plan their routes accordingly to minimize disruptions during the overnight work periods.
