The Goddard School, a prominent early childhood education provider, plans to set a Guinness World Records title for the most viewers of a reading live stream on YouTube. This event will take place on September 3, 2023, at 12:00 PM ET, coinciding with the beginning of National Literacy Month.
Steve Burns, renowned for his role as the original host of the children’s television show Blue’s Clues, will read the book Curious Blueberry the Carousel Horse live from The Goddard School of Manhattan (StuyTown). The event is open to the public and will see students and teachers participating in person, while thousands of families from over 650 Goddard Schools across the country join virtually.
Fostering a Love for Reading
Marcel Nahm, senior vice president and chief marketing officer of Goddard Systems, LLC, emphasized the importance of reading in child development. “At The Goddard School, we recognize the impact reading has on children’s cognitive, social, emotional, and academic development, and its power to spark a love of learning,” he stated. Nahm expressed enthusiasm for the event, describing it as a memorable way to inspire the next generation of readers while attempting to set a Guinness World Record.
The featured book, written by Steve Metzger and illustrated by Bruno Robert, tells the story of Blueberry, a carousel horse, and her animal friends as they explore the value of curiosity. It is designed to engage young readers through open-ended questions, encouraging them to think critically and reflect on the story.
Integrating Learning at Home
“Curious Blueberry the Carousel Horse” was created to align with The Goddard School’s Wonder of Learning® program, which promotes an inquiry-based approach to education. This method encourages children to explore, investigate, and collaborate, fostering both academic and emotional development. The book also includes tips for families to extend inquiry-based learning activities at home.
The Goddard School aims to achieve more than just a world record; the initiative seeks to cultivate a shared reading experience that highlights the lifelong value of literacy. By engaging a large audience in this interactive event, the school hopes to inspire a love for reading that extends beyond the classroom.
As National Literacy Month commences, the Goddard School’s efforts reflect a commitment to nurturing literacy in young children, underscoring its significance in personal and academic growth.
