Drivers in Springfield and Whitemarsh Townships are advised to prepare for significant traffic disruptions next week due to a planned closure of Stenton Avenue. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is set to carry out essential pipe replacement work, necessitating the closure of this busy roadway.
Details of the Closure
From December 15 to December 18, 2023, Stenton Avenue will be closed between Bethlehem Pike and Joshua Road. The work will occur daily from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, and is subject to weather conditions. During this period, motorists will be detoured, with PennDOT advising them to follow posted signs for alternate routes.
The detour will direct traffic to use Bethlehem Pike, Route 73 (also known as Skippack Pike/Church Road), and Joshua Road. PennDOT has cautioned that delays and congestion are likely not only on these detour routes but also on surrounding local roads as traffic is redirected.
Advice for Motorists
Officials are urging drivers to allow for extra travel time, stay alert for changing traffic patterns, and adhere strictly to posted signage while the work is underway. To stay informed about the latest traffic conditions, closures, and detours, motorists can refer to the MyChesCo Traffic Center.
