Saffron Cherry Productions Acquires Celia Imrie’s WWII Novel for TV Adaptation

Saffron Cherry Productions (SCP) has secured the television adaptation rights to “Meet Me at Rainbow Corner,” the latest novel by acclaimed actor and bestselling author Celia Imrie. The novel, set for paperback release by Bloomsbury on August 14, 2024, explores the lives of women at the American GI Club in Piccadilly, London, during World War II.

The story unfolds amid the turmoil of war, revealing how these remarkable women navigate challenges such as bombings and personal loss while forging deep friendships. It intertwines themes of danger, heartbreak, and unexpected romance, celebrating the resilience and camaraderie that emerged during this tumultuous period. Joanna Lumley has praised the book as “utterly charming and engrossing,” highlighting its emotional depth.

SCP’s creative director, Sally Lindsay, expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating, “Celia has created a thrilling world of high stakes, spies, and romance all set against the backdrop of World War Two. We look forward to adapting it for television and bringing this extraordinary story to life.” The production team aims to honor the historical significance and emotional resonance of Imrie’s narrative.

In her response to the news, Imrie conveyed her excitement: “I am so excited that Saffron Cherry Productions have picked up ‘Meet Me At Rainbow Corner.’ They have an impeccable track record for bingeable TV.” This adaptation adds to Imrie’s growing portfolio of literary successes.

Celia Imrie, who has successfully transitioned from acting to writing, debuted her novel “Not Quite Nice” in 2015, which spent six weeks in the Sunday Times Top Ten. Following that, she published several other works, including “Nice Work (If You Can Get It)” (2016), “Sail Away” (2018), “A Nice Cup of Tea” (2019), and “Orphans of the Storm” (2021).

Saffron Cherry Productions is known for creating engaging content, including the multi-award-winning series “The World According to Grandpa” and the film “King Lear”. The company is also involved in co-producing “The Madame Blanc Mysteries”, which is available on Channel 5, Acorn, and Netflix. The founder and managing director, Caroline Roberts-Cherry, is a Grierson award-winning director and BAFTA-winning producer, further adding to the project’s credibility.

In addition to her writing endeavors, Imrie is set to appear in the film adaptation of Richard Osman’s bestselling novel “The Thursday Murder Club,” alongside stars such as Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, and Ben Kingsley. As SCP moves forward with the adaptation of “Meet Me at Rainbow Corner,” audiences can anticipate a compelling portrayal of the resilience and spirit of women during a defining moment in history.
