A swift police response resulted in the arrest of a wanted woman following a daytime burglary in Wilmington, Delaware, on January 6, 2024. The Wilmington Police Department reported that a member of its Special Operations Division was on patrol in the 800 block of North Shipley Street when they were alerted to a burglary that had just taken place around 09:39.
Upon receiving a description of the suspect, the officer promptly canvassed the surrounding area. Within a short period, police claim the officer identified a woman who matched the description in the 100 block of Burton Place. The individual was confirmed to be 40-year-old Emily Popkey, who was then taken into custody without incident.
Following her arrest, Popkey was charged with third-degree burglary and theft of less than $1,500. Additionally, authorities noted that she had an outstanding warrant. After her arraignment in Justice of the Peace Court 20, she was committed to the Delores J. Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution on a secured bail of $4,000.
The Wilmington Police Department emphasized that these charges are allegations. Popkey is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
