The Pittsburgh Penguins showcased their offensive prowess with a commanding 6-2 victory over the Edmonton Oilers on March 14, 2025. In a remarkable display, the Penguins scored three goals in just 37 seconds, marking the fastest three-goal span in the franchise’s history and the quickest allowed by the Oilers.
The Penguins took control early in the match. Just 2:20 into the first period, forward Anthony Mantha opened the scoring with a deft deflection from a pass by Justin Brazeau, who skillfully maneuvered the puck through a defender’s legs. A mere 22 seconds later, Mantha added his second goal during a breakaway, further igniting the Penguins’ momentum. Sydney Crosby capped the rapid scoring spree, finding the net 15 seconds after Mantha’s second goal, redirecting a shot from the slot.
Throughout the game, the Penguins demonstrated exceptional efficiency, scoring on three of their first four shots. In addition to Mantha’s contributions, Evgeni Malkin registered a goal and an assist, while Rickard Rakell and Egor Chinakhov also found the back of the net. Penguins goaltender Arturs Silovs delivered a solid performance, making 30 saves to help secure the win.
The Penguins are on a roll, having won three consecutive games and compiled an impressive record of 10-2-2 over their last 14 matches, improving their overall standing to 25-14-11. This victory against the Oilers is part of their ongoing pursuit of playoff positioning as the season progresses.
On the other side of the rink, the Oilers struggled to find their footing. Despite a valiant effort, with goals from Jake Walman and Matthew Savoie, they succumbed to their second consecutive loss and have now dropped four of their last six games, bringing their record to 25-19-8. Notably, star player Connor McDavid was held scoreless for the second game in a row, a first for him this season. The last time McDavid went two games without a point was February 7 and February 22, 2025.
Looking ahead, the Penguins will face the Vancouver Canucks on March 16, while the Oilers are set to host the Washington Capitals on March 15. Both teams will be eager to make adjustments and regain their competitive edge as they navigate the remainder of the season.
