The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced nighttime lane closures on northbound I-95 in South Philadelphia next week as part of a major bridge repair project valued at $37.4 million. From August 25 to August 27, a single lane will be closed from 21:00 to 00:00, followed by a double lane closure from 00:00 to 05:00. These closures will occur between Packer Avenue and Christian Street.
This project focuses on essential repairs to ensure the safety and functionality of the bridge. Work will include addressing weld cracks, reinforcing concrete bridge decks, and replacing expansion joints. Additionally, crews will clean and repaint 11 overhead steel sign structures and upgrade roadway lighting to LED luminaires. The general contractor for this significant undertaking is IEW Construction Group, Inc., based in Hamilton, New Jersey.
Motorists should prepare for potential delays and allow extra travel time, as significant backups are anticipated during the overnight closures. All planned activities are subject to weather conditions, which may impact the schedule.
