Paramount’s Nickelodeon has acquired the international rights to the CGI animated series The Marsupilamis, reimagining a beloved children’s brand for audiences outside the United States. This new adaptation introduces the iconic character, originally created over 70 years ago by Belgian author André Franquin, bringing the legendary Marsupilami from its natural habitat in the Palombian jungle to an urban setting.
The series comprises 52 episodes, each lasting 11 minutes, and is produced by Ellipse Animation and Belvision. Slated for release in 2026, the show follows twins Jade and Mica as they navigate life after their explorer parents entrust them with three mysterious Marsupilami eggs. As these eggs hatch, the siblings must devise clever ways to keep their new friends hidden from potential predators, who lurk around every corner.
Creative Team Behind the Series
The direction of The Marsupilamis falls to Célestine Jacquel-Plays, known for her work on Grizzy and the Lemmings. The head writers, Andrew Barnett Jones and Ciaran Murtagh, have previously contributed to The Amazing World of Gumball, while Guilhem Deckers serves as the artistic director, having worked on Minions 2.
Layla Lewis, Senior Vice President of Global Acquisitions and Content Partnerships at Nickelodeon, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership with Ellipse Animation. She stated, “We are delighted to introduce The Marsupilamis to our Nickelodeon audiences. This fresh take on a beloved character brings a vibrant mix of humor, heart, and adventure that makes it an excellent addition to our slate.”
