Julian McMahon, Acclaimed Actor of ‘Nip/Tuck’ and ‘FBI,’ Passes Away at 56

Actor Julian McMahon, renowned for his compelling performances in television series such as “Charmed,” “Nip/Tuck,” and “FBI: Most Wanted,” has died at the age of 56. His passing on Wednesday in Clearwater, Florida, was confirmed by his wife, Kelly McMahon, who revealed that he succumbed to cancer after a private battle.

“With an open heart, I wish to share with the world that my beloved husband, Julian McMahon, died peacefully this week after a valiant effort to overcome cancer,” Kelly McMahon stated to Deadline. “We ask for support during this time to allow our family to grieve in privacy. And we wish for all of those to whom Julian brought joy, to continue to find joy in life.”

Julian McMahon was born on July 27, 1968, in Sydney, Australia. His career began in the world of modeling, but he soon transitioned into acting, becoming a household name on the Australian soap opera “Home and Away.” This role paved the way for his move to Hollywood, where he secured a role on NBC’s daytime drama “Another World.”

A Journey Through Television

In the mid-1990s, McMahon made his mark in primetime television with a series regular role on the NBC crime drama “Profiler.” However, it was his portrayal of the half-demon Cole Turner on the supernatural series “Charmed” that truly captured the audience’s imagination. His character became a fan favorite, solidifying his status as a versatile actor.

McMahon’s career reached new heights in 2003 when he landed the leading role of Dr. Christian Troy in Ryan Murphy’s “Nip/Tuck.” The show, which delved into the lives of two plastic surgeons, ran for six seasons on FX and earned McMahon a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor in a Series. His performance as the charming yet flawed doctor was widely praised and remains one of his most iconic roles.

From Superheroes to Crime Fighters

While television was his primary domain, McMahon also ventured into film. He gained recognition among superhero enthusiasts for his role as Dr. Victor von Doom in the 2005 film “Fantastic Four” and its 2007 sequel “Rise of the Silver Surfer.” His portrayal of the iconic villain added another dimension to his acting repertoire.

More recently, McMahon starred in Dick Wolf’s “FBI” and later led the cast of its spinoff, “FBI: Most Wanted,” as Special Agent Jess LaCroix. His character, tasked with tracking down notorious criminals, was a testament to McMahon’s ability to bring depth and nuance to his roles. He departed the show in 2022 at the end of its third season.

Legacy and Impact

Julian McMahon’s impact on the entertainment industry is undeniable. His diverse range of roles showcased his talent and versatility, earning him a dedicated fan base. Beyond his professional achievements, McMahon was a beloved figure off-screen, known for his warmth and generosity.

He is survived by his wife, Kelly, and his 25-year-old daughter Madison, whom he shared with ex-wife Brooke Burns. His family has requested privacy during this difficult time, but they encourage fans to celebrate McMahon’s life by finding joy in the memories he helped create.

As the entertainment world mourns the loss of a dynamic and talented actor, Julian McMahon’s legacy will continue to inspire both fans and aspiring actors alike. His contributions to television and film have left an indelible mark, ensuring that his work will be remembered for years to come.
