A shooting at a banquet hall in Stockton, California, resulted in the deaths of four individuals and injuries to ten others during what was described as a family gathering. The incident occurred just before 18:00 on March 30, 2024, and involved both children and adults among the victims, according to Heather Brent, a spokesperson for the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office.
Early investigations indicate that this shooting may have been a targeted attack, prompting local officials to appeal for public assistance in identifying the shooter. During a news conference at the scene, Brent stated that detectives were actively seeking a motive for the violence.
Ron Freitas, the District Attorney for San Joaquin County, urged anyone with information about the shooter to come forward without delay. He also addressed the suspected shooter directly, imploring them to turn themselves in. “If you have any information as to this individual, reach out immediately. If you are this individual, turn yourself in immediately,” Freitas said.
The tragic event unfolded inside the banquet hall, which shares a parking lot with several other businesses. This location is situated in a city of approximately 320,000 residents, located about 64 kilometers south of Sacramento.
In response to the shooting, Christina Fugazzi, the Mayor of Stockton, expressed her distress over the incident, stating, “Families should be together instead of at the hospital, standing next to their loved one, praying that they survive.” Her comments reflect the profound impact this event has had on the local community, emphasizing the need for safety and support during such difficult times.
As authorities continue their investigation, they are focusing on gathering more details about the incident and the possible motives behind it. The community remains on edge as they await further developments in the case.
