Delaware State Police are conducting an investigation into a fatal collision that occurred in Newark on August 22, 2025. The two-vehicle crash, which took place at approximately 15:23 local time, resulted in one man’s death and left another with serious injuries.
The incident happened at the intersection of Bear Christiana Road and Freedom Road. According to police reports, a maroon Chevrolet Trax was heading northbound on Bear Christiana Road. As it attempted to turn left onto Freedom Road, it was struck by a southbound black BMW 335. Investigators believe the BMW was racing another vehicle at a high speed when the collision occurred.
The impact of the crash was severe, hitting the right front side of the Chevrolet. The driver of the Chevrolet, a 75-year-old man from Newark, was transported to a nearby hospital. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter. His identity has not been released pending notification of his family.
The driver of the BMW, a 49-year-old Newark man, also sustained serious injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Investigation and Witness Appeal
Following the accident, Bear Christiana Road was closed for approximately three and a half hours to allow authorities to investigate and clear the scene. The Delaware State Police Troop 2 Collision Reconstruction Unit is leading the investigation. Police are actively seeking witnesses to the crash or anyone who may have information regarding the incident.
