A DUI checkpoint conducted in Chula Vista on October 13, 2023, resulted in two arrests and a total of 28 citations being issued. The checkpoint, set up in the 1000 block of Third Avenue, operated from 18:00 to 23:00. The Chula Vista Police Department reported that the operation was part of an ongoing effort to curb impaired driving in the area.

During the checkpoint, police screened 774 vehicles out of the 2,763 that passed through. Officers performed field sobriety tests on five drivers, leading to the arrests of two individuals for DUI of alcohol. In addition to the arrests, five vehicles were impounded as part of the enforcement effort.

The majority of the citations issued—20 out of the total 28—were related to unlicensed or suspended licenses. The Chula Vista Police Department emphasized that the locations of such checkpoints are determined based on reported incidents of impaired driving-related crashes, aiming to enhance road safety for all motorists.
