Caernarvon Township Offers Competitive Salary for New Police Officer

Caernarvon Township, located in Pennsylvania, is actively seeking to hire a full-time certified police officer, offering a competitive salary package exceeding $106,000. This initiative highlights the increasing competition among law enforcement agencies to attract qualified professionals in the field. The announcement, made by the Caernarvon Township Police Department, underscores the department’s commitment to ensuring public safety amidst growing demands for well-trained officers.

The position involves working as a full-time patrol officer, with an 84-hour pay period on a rotating biweekly schedule. This schedule includes night shifts, weekends, and holidays, reflecting the department’s operational needs. Newly hired probationary officers can expect to earn $85,416.24 in their first year, with salaries increasing to $96,074.16 in the second year and reaching a maximum of $106,753.92 upon attaining full status.

Job Responsibilities and Requirements

Officers in this role will be responsible for protecting the public and maintaining peace. They must interpret and enforce federal, state, and local laws, along with departmental policies and directives. This position requires the ability to work independently under limited supervision and to adjust to a rotating shift schedule.

Candidates must meet several critical qualifications, including certification by the Pennsylvania Municipal Police Officers’ Education and Training Commission and an active Act 120 certification number. Other requirements encompass U.S. citizenship, a minimum age of 21, a high school diploma or equivalent, a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license, and a clean criminal history, free of felony convictions or disqualifying misdemeanors. Additionally, if applicable, any prior military service must have concluded under honorable conditions.

The hiring process will include interviews, a thorough background investigation, and medical and psychological evaluations. All hiring decisions will be made at the discretion of the chief of police.
