Allegiant Air has announced the launch of new flight routes to Atlantic City, New Jersey, marking the airline’s inaugural service to Atlantic City International Airport. The announcement was made on Wednesday, and the airline is offering one-way fares starting at just $39. This new service will connect Atlantic City with four different locations in Florida.
Commencing on December 4, 2023, flights will initially operate from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood Airport. This will be followed by additional routes from St. Pete-Clearwater Airport, Orlando Sanford Airport, and Punta Gorda Airport during the Presidents’ Day weekend. The introduction of these routes is a strategic move for Allegiant, known for its focus on connecting smaller, underserved cities with popular vacation destinations.
Allegiant Air operates as an ultra-low-cost carrier, primarily targeting leisure travelers. The airline’s corporate headquarters are situated in the suburbs of Las Vegas, a city renowned for its extensive gambling offerings. This new route expansion also reflects an ongoing trend, as gaming revenues continue to surge in various regions.
According to the Nevada Gaming Control Board, Clark County, Nevada, which includes Las Vegas, generated approximately $6.8 billion in gambling revenue through June 2023, with around $4.3 billion derived from the bustling Las Vegas Strip. In contrast, New Jersey’s gaming industry has also performed strongly, with the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement reporting $3.3 billion in gambling revenue during the same period. This figure encompasses revenues from Atlantic City’s nine traditional casinos, along with online gaming and sportsbooks.
The expansion into Atlantic City aligns with Allegiant’s strategy of tapping into markets with significant tourism potential. The airline generally operates routes that face little to no competition, thus providing travelers with more affordable options for reaching popular destinations. As travel demand continues to rebound, this new service is poised to attract both leisure and gaming enthusiasts looking to explore all that Atlantic City has to offer.
With the inclusion of Atlantic City in its route network, Allegiant Air is not only enhancing its service offerings but also supporting the growth of tourism in both Florida and New Jersey. As these flights launch, the airline is expected to play a significant role in facilitating travel between these two regions, contributing to the ongoing recovery of the travel industry post-pandemic.
