URGENT UPDATE: Red Bull Racing’s Yuki Tsunoda has been eliminated in Q1 during the qualifying session for the Hungarian Grand Prix, starting in P16 on August 2, 2025. Despite this setback, Tsunoda remains optimistic about his competitive pace from practice sessions and aims for a strong performance during the race.
Tsukoda’s qualifying result starkly contrasts his recent achievement at the Belgian Grand Prix, where he secured P7 after advancing to Q3. At the Hungaroring, he was just 0.163 seconds off the pace of teammate Max Verstappen, who will start in P8. Tsunoda expressed frustration over a lack of grip in his RB21, attributing the issues to a setup change made before FP3.
In a candid media session, Tsunoda stated,
“If we knew there was a problem, probably we would not struggle that much. We don’t know yet.”
He highlighted that despite the grip issues, he found solace in being closer to Verstappen’s pace throughout the weekend, noting,
“It’s not the level that we normally feel… I was very close to Max throughout the week.”
Tsunoda’s qualifying pace mirrored his performance in the first two practice sessions, indicating that the team struggled to resolve key issues. He admitted,
“We definitely have to improve for the future. That kind of made ourselves a bit clouded idea: What kind of car are we getting for qualifying? Which is a bit frustrating.”
Conditions for the race may play to Tsunoda’s advantage, with rain anticipated. He stated,
“With that position, maybe that would help. That would be better. Like the start condition. Something that we can make it turn around.”
As fans await the race, Tsunoda’s resilience and determination stand out. The Hungarian Grand Prix is set to kick off tomorrow, and all eyes will be on Tsunoda as he looks to turn his fortunes around.
