UPDATE: The Yates Center Wildcats are primed for a competitive season in the Three Rivers League, set to kick off on September 4, 2024. Following a challenging 1-8 record last year, the Wildcats are entering the new season with renewed confidence, thanks to a rigorous summer training program.
Coach Ryan Panko expressed optimism about the team’s prospects, highlighting their impressive summer workouts as a key factor. “Our team chemistry, the kids we have showing up to weights and getting after it might be the best I’ve had since I’ve been here,” Panko stated. The Wildcats’ commitment to training has been evident, with players like junior Jeremiah Jones actively participating in lifting sessions.
With the Wildcats’ roster aging and improving, the team now boasts three seniors: Eli Hess, Blake Morrison, and Clayton Culver. Culver, who is taking on football for the first time, is projected to make significant contributions on both sides of the line. “I’m really excited for it,” Culver said. “I think we have a good shot of doing really well this season. We have good chemistry.”
The competitive landscape of the Three Rivers League appears more open this year, especially following the graduation of key players from the two-time returning champions, Marmaton Valley. This shift creates a thrilling opportunity for the Wildcats, who are eager to capitalize on the situation. “They’ve been getting after it the past couple of years as freshmen and sophomores,” Panko noted. “Now, they’re juniors and seniors. It’s really paid off this summer.”
As anticipation builds towards the kickoff, the Wildcats are focused on refining their skills in full pads and solidifying their strategies. With the season just around the corner, fans are eager to see if the Wildcats can transform their fortunes from last season and emerge as contenders in the TRL.
