White House Responds Furiously After Troops Shot in D.C.

URGENT UPDATE: A fierce backlash erupted from a White House-affiliated account after a journalist criticized President Donald Trump’s deployment of National Guard troops in Washington, D.C., following a troubling incident where two troops were shot. Reports indicate that the two guardsmen are currently in critical condition but are alive, contrary to earlier reports suggesting otherwise.

The situation escalated when journalist Jane Mayer of The New Yorker tweeted, “This is so tragic, so unnecessary, these poor guardsmen should never have been deployed.” She expressed her concerns about the political motives behind the deployment, stating she observed the troops performing minimal duties. Mayer’s comments triggered a furious response from the White House’s Rapid Response 47 account, which labeled her a “sick, disgusting ghoul” for her remarks.

The account retaliated vehemently, asserting, “You sick, disgusting ghoul. Two of these heroes were just SHOT IN BROAD DAYLIGHT.” It went on to emphasize the heroism of the National Guard and criticized Mayer’s perspective as “stupid.” The public relations account underscored that the National Guard has effectively saved lives, countering the journalist’s assertions with a demand for acknowledgment of their sacrifices.

Details surrounding the shooting are still developing. The suspect has been identified as Rahmanullah Lakanwal, a 29-year-old Afghan national. While a motive for the attack remains unclear, some Republican figures, including Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ), have already attempted to politicize the event. Biggs blamed a group of six military veteran Democrats who recently released a video urging troops to refuse unlawful orders, suggesting this may have influenced the attack.

This incident highlights the growing tensions surrounding military presence in Washington, D.C., especially in the wake of heightened security measures. The National Guard troops, who were initially deployed for protection, are now at the center of a heated national debate about their role and the implications of their presence in a politically charged atmosphere.

As the situation unfolds, further updates are expected regarding the condition of the injured guardsmen and the ongoing investigation into the shooting. The urgency of these developments emphasizes the need for clarity and accountability in the face of violence against service members.
