High school sports in the Acadiana area showcased outstanding athletic performances during the week of October 20, 2023. This is an opportunity for fans to select the top athlete of the week through a poll conducted by The Acadiana Advocate. Voting will conclude at noon on Wednesday, and the winning athlete will receive recognition on The Advocate Acadiana’s Facebook page.
Among the standout candidates this week are several impressive players demonstrating exceptional skills on the field.
Notable Performances
Carson Gurzi from Carencro led the charge, completing 21 of 26 passes for an impressive 422 yards and five touchdowns in his team’s victory over Sulphur. His performance not only highlighted his precision but also his ability to perform under pressure.
From Comeaux, Jaden Celestine made a significant impact by rushing for 183 yards and scoring four touchdowns on 28 carries. His contributions were crucial in securing an overtime win against Northside, showcasing his endurance and determination.
Another strong contender is Alex Munoz from Teurlings, who passed for 264 yards and three touchdowns while rushing for an additional 127 yards and one touchdown on only 12 carries. His multifaceted performance played a key role in leading the Rebels to victory over East Ascension.
Collin Dore from Cecilia also had a remarkable game, completing 17 of 20 passes for 217 yards and three touchdowns, in addition to rushing for 35 yards and two touchdowns on six carries. His all-around performance helped propel the Bulldogs to a win against Opelousas.
Additionally, Luke McLain from Vermilion Catholic made his mark by rushing for 165 yards and scoring five touchdowns on 21 carries. He also successfully made six PATs, contributing significantly to his team’s victory over Opelousas Catholic.
Lastly, Blake Delcambre of Loreauville showcased his versatility by rushing for 193 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries, passing for another touchdown, and even returning a kickoff for a touchdown in the Tigers’ win over Catholic High of New Iberia.
