Vladimir Guerrero Jr. MRI Clean; Blue Jays Exercise Caution

URGENT UPDATE: An MRI on Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has revealed no damage to his tight left hamstring, but the team is opting for caution as they prepare for a critical game. Guerrero, a five-time All-Star, was absent from the lineup during the Blue Jays’ matchup against the Pittsburgh Pirates on July 31, 2023.

Blue Jays manager John Schneider confirmed the MRI results, stating, “We’re just trying to be as careful as we can with him and I’m glad we kind of got him out of there when we did.” The decision comes after Guerrero exited Monday night’s game in the fifth inning due to hamstring tightness, following impressive defensive plays that included two splits at first base.

The Blue Jays are currently holding a strong position in the American League with a record of 73-53, maintaining a five-game lead over both the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox in the AL East. Guerrero, who is hitting .298 this season with 21 home runs and 69 RBIs in 124 games, is a crucial part of their success.

Schneider mentioned that Guerrero could potentially return for the finale of the three-game series against the Pirates on Wednesday afternoon. “I think he was a little reassured, as were we, with the results of the MRI. We can’t afford to miss him for an extended period,” he added.

The Blue Jays have invested in Guerrero’s future, signing him to a staggering $500 million contract extension earlier this year, underscoring his value to the team.

Fans and analysts alike will be watching closely as the Blue Jays navigate this situation, with Guerrero’s potential return being a significant factor in their playoff aspirations. Stay tuned for updates on Guerrero’s status as the Blue Jays aim to secure their position in the standings.
