Utah Crushed, ASU Escapes: Shocking Results Define Week 4

UPDATE: In a stunning turn of events during Week 4 of college football, Utah suffered a shocking 34-10 defeat against Texas Tech, while Arizona State University (ASU) narrowly escaped Baylor with a last-second field goal, marking a day dominated by unexpected blowouts and intense matchups.

The action kicked off early on Saturday, July 15, 2023, with games stretching from 9 a.m. in Salt Lake City to just before midnight in Los Angeles. The lengthy day featured a series of lopsided scores, with nine out of ten Pac-12 schools involved in games decided by at least 14 points. Among the standout results, Oregon and Washington showcased dominance, each winning decisively against their rivals.

The most shocking upset came from Utah, which struggled mightily in the trenches against Texas Tech. “I never would have believed if you were to say we would lose the line of scrimmage,” said Utah coach Kyle Whittingham. The Utes were outmatched, with quarterback Devon Dampier throwing two interceptions and averaging just 4.3 yards per attempt. Without a functional downfield passing game, Utah’s hopes for a successful season are now in jeopardy.

In a thrilling game in Waco, ASU faced off against Baylor in a rollercoaster contest that saw the Sun Devils take a precarious lead. Despite forcing three turnovers, ASU struggled to convert opportunities into touchdowns, settling for short field goals. With just 1:52 left, Baylor tied the game at 24-24, but ASU’s Jesus Gomez secured victory with a 43-yard field goal as time expired, finalizing the score at 27-24. This critical win positions the Sun Devils solidly in their pursuit of a second consecutive Big 12 title.

In other games, Oregon dominated Oregon State with a staggering 69-point win margin, while Washington routed Washington State 59-24, further establishing their positions as frontrunners in the conference. The Ducks amassed 585 yards of offense, leaving the Beavers struggling with only 147 yards.

In a shocking turn of events, California suffered a humiliating 34-0 loss to San Diego State, marking one of the most lopsided shutouts for a power conference team in recent history. Coach Justin Wilcox faces mounting criticism as the Bears failed to deliver in a game they were favored to win. The loss raises serious questions about their capability to compete this season.

As teams regroup and assess their standings, all eyes will be on the upcoming matchups. ASU faces a challenging stretch against teams with a combined record of 17-1, including TCU, Utah, and Texas Tech. Meanwhile, Utah must find a way to recover quickly to stay in contention in the increasingly competitive Big 12.

Fans and analysts alike are left buzzing over the unexpected outcomes of Week 4. Stay tuned for the latest updates as the college football landscape continues to shift dramatically.
