UPDATE: A significant winter weather event is unfolding in Central Indiana as accumulating snow is forecasted to impact the region starting tonight. The storm is expected to bring 1-3 inches of snow along and southwest of a line from Lafayette to Richmond, with higher amounts of 3-5 inches possible in southern areas.
Just announced, the WRTV Storm Team warns that the snow could severely affect the evening commute, particularly in western regions. As temperatures plunge to the mid-20s overnight, gusty winds will contribute to hazardous travel conditions.
Residents can expect a gray and cloudy Thursday, with flurries possible throughout the day; however, the bulk of the snow will arrive later in the evening. The high temperature will hover around 31°F, but wind gusts will be significantly less than those experienced previously this week.
As of now, local meteorologists urge caution for drivers and pedestrians alike as conditions deteriorate. “Snow will overspread much of Central Indiana Thursday night, creating potentially dangerous situations on the roads,” said a meteorologist from WRTV.
In addition to the snow tonight, another light snow event is predicted for Saturday, bringing even colder air with highs only in the single digits on Sunday. Wind chills could create dangerously low temperatures, making it critical for residents to stay updated on weather alerts.
The forecast for tonight includes cloudy skies with a low of 25°F, while Thursday night temperatures are expected to drop to around 26°F as snow begins to accumulate. Friday’s high will reach just 33°F, followed by Saturday’s predicted high of only 19°F.
With winter storm warnings in effect, residents are advised to prepare for snowy conditions and to alter travel plans accordingly. Emergency services are on standby, and local authorities are closely monitoring the situation.
