URGENT UPDATE: A significant winter weather event is set to impact the Tri-State Area starting early Tuesday morning, with light snow expected to disrupt travel during the morning commute. Officials from CBS News New York have issued a First Alert Weather Day, warning residents to prepare for slick roads, particularly north and west of New York City.
On Monday, temperatures will begin in the 20s and gradually rise to the upper 30s, accompanied by mostly sunny skies. However, as evening approaches, clouds will thicken, setting the stage for the impending snow. Light snow is forecasted to begin around 3-4 a.m. on Tuesday, continuing through the morning hours.
Travelers should be aware that this weather could significantly affect road conditions. Authorities emphasize that areas north and west of the city may experience the most severe impacts, with brief periods of reduced visibility and slippery surfaces.
By midday Tuesday, the snow will transition to rain for many regions, reducing overall snowfall accumulation to just a coating to 1 inch on colder surfaces. As temperatures rise into the mid to upper 30s in the afternoon, the precipitation is expected to taper off.
Looking ahead, Christmas Eve is projected to be dry with seasonable highs in the low to mid 40s, while Christmas Day may bring mostly cloudy skies with a chance of showers at times.
