UPDATE: A serial slasher is being actively sought by the NYPD after a shocking series of unprovoked attacks in Brooklyn over the past 24 hours. The rampage began early Saturday morning and has left three victims injured, all of whom were randomly targeted while commuting.
Police confirmed that the first incident occurred around 6:30 a.m. on October 21, 2023, when a 37-year-old man was slashed on the left side of his face aboard a Manhattan-bound Q train in Flatbush. After exiting at the Church Ave. station, the victim reported the attack to authorities while the assailant remained on the train.
As police released surveillance images of the suspect, the situation escalated. Just hours later, at approximately 9:40 p.m., the same perpetrator attacked a 53-year-old man near Foster and New York Avenues, about a mile-and-a-half from the earlier incident. Then, just 12 hours later, at 6:55 a.m. on October 22, he struck again, this time targeting a 56-year-old man near Newkirk Ave. and New York Avenues.
All three victims were rushed to Kings County Hospital and are currently in stable condition. The NYPD has intensified its search efforts, canvassing the Flatbush area as they work to apprehend the suspect.
The suspect is described as wearing a navy blue jacket, black shorts, and white sneakers at the time of the attacks. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS, where all calls will remain confidential.
This string of attacks occurs shortly after another violent incident in the subway system. On October 16, a man was stabbed in the back on a rush-hour D train by a suspect with a troubling criminal history. The alarming trend of violence in public transit raises serious concerns for commuters and authorities alike.
The NYPD is calling for increased vigilance among subway riders as they work to bring this serial slasher to justice. Stay tuned for further updates as this developing story unfolds.
