UPDATE: A four-point buck has been successfully rescued after becoming trapped between concrete barriers on Interstate 75 in Auburn Hills, MI. The incident unfolded around 2 p.m. on October 13 when a concerned driver alerted local authorities about a deer that had been struck by a vehicle near Lapeer Road.
Local police quickly responded to the scene, where the deer was found wedged in a gap roughly a foot wide between the northbound and southbound barriers. The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the county’s search and rescue team was dispatched to assist in the risky extraction.
Using specialized equipment, including a technical truck and straps, responders worked tirelessly for nearly an hour to free the animal. “I’m proud of our team whose skill and determination made it possible to rescue this deer from certain death,” stated Sheriff Michael Bouchard in an official release.
During the rescue operation, both northbound and southbound lanes of I-75 were temporarily closed, causing significant traffic delays. Once extricated, the deer was carefully examined by animal control officials before being released back into the wild.
This remarkable rescue highlights the dedication of local first responders and their commitment to animal welfare. The entire incident serves as a reminder of the unexpected challenges wildlife can face in urban environments. As authorities continue to monitor the situation, community members are encouraged to report any similar occurrences to ensure the safety of both animals and motorists.
