UPDATE: The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) has launched an urgent investigation into a man using stolen identities to fraudulently rent apartments across the city. Detectives are calling for public assistance to identify potential victims of this ongoing scam.
According to a news release from the LAPD’s Commercial Crimes Division, the suspect, identified only as Igor, has targeted rental properties in Hollywood and the Larchmont area. Police report that he submitted rental applications using personal information stolen from other individuals and provided counterfeit cashier’s checks to property management companies.
Authorities describe the suspect as a Black adult male with dreadlocks and a beard or goatee. Detectives are releasing his photo, believing there may be additional victims, including rental and property management companies that he may have exploited.
“The suspect’s actions have put many potential renters at risk. We urge anyone who believes they have been victimized to come forward,” said LAPD officials.
