UPDATE: High school football playoff action exploded across the Southland, Aurora, Elgin, Naperville, and Lake County this weekend, showcasing thrilling matchups and standout performances. Just confirmed, the second round of the state playoffs delivered shocking results that have fans buzzing.
In a dominating display, No. 9 Lincoln-Way East crushed No. 25 Palatine with a staggering score of 55-13. Meanwhile, No. 16 Hersey stunned the top-seeded Richards with a decisive 42-21 victory.
Over in Class 6A, No. 10 St. Laurence triumphed over No. 2 Bradley-Bourbonnais, finishing the game at 35-21. St. Laurence’s standout player, Cory Les, dazzled with 180 yards and 3 touchdowns, including a crucial 24-yard touchdown pass to Sean Rice.
In Class 5A, No. 2 Belvidere North narrowly edged out No. 7 Kaneland with a score of 30-25, while No. 1 Richmond-Burton dominated No. 9 Aurora Central Catholic with an overwhelming 57-7 scoreline.

As for local college basketball, the competition remains fierce. In the men’s division, Carl Sandburg triumphed over Lake County with a close 66-63 finish. Notable performances included Davion Lawrence from St. Xavier, who scored 20 points against Lourdes, despite his team’s 80-85 loss.
