UPDATE: Salisbury is reeling from a surge in crime with multiple incidents reported over the past week, including thefts, assaults, and even arson. Authorities confirm that a series of disturbing events unfolded between January 16 and January 21, prompting urgent community alerts.
A hit-and-run incident caused significant property damage in the 500 block of Lash Drive between 10 p.m. on January 15 and 9:06 a.m. on January 16. In a separate incident, a burglary occurred in the 300 block of South West Street on January 16, resulting in a loss of $400.
Throughout the week, numerous shoplifting incidents were reported, primarily in the 300 block of South Arlington Street, with total losses accumulating to over $1,000. The most significant theft was a larceny in the 100 block of East Fisher Street on January 16, where the estimated loss was a staggering $1,540.
A particularly alarming event occurred on January 18, when authorities responded to a burglary by forcible entry in the 300 block of Calhoun Street. The same day, a series of shoplifting incidents continued, with losses ranging from $7 to $343.
The crime wave escalated further with reports of an assault at 1000 block of Oakmont Court on January 17, and the emergency response to a shooting incident in the 400 block of Julia Drive the following day at 8:10 p.m.
In a chilling report, authorities confirmed that arson took place in the 1100 block of Crosby Street early on January 21, where a vehicle was intentionally set on fire.
Authorities from the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office are also investigating a series of related crimes. Notably, on January 19, Nasir Nyheim Fudge, 25, was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance within a penal institution. Additionally, Dylan Andrew Martin, 26, faces felony charges for breaking and entering with the intent to terrorize or injure, while Barry Laneil Bostic, 34, has been charged as a fugitive from justice.
These incidents highlight a troubling trend in the Salisbury area, raising community concerns about safety and security. Local authorities are urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities immediately.
