URGENT UPDATE: A series of crimes have been reported in Salisbury, North Carolina, raising concerns among residents. Multiple thefts, assaults, and shoplifting incidents have been confirmed over the past week, with police urging the community to remain vigilant.
The Salisbury Police Department reports a theft of a motor vehicle occurred in the 1400 block of West Innes Street between 11:17 p.m. on January 27 and 5:30 a.m. on January 30. Another vehicle theft was reported in the 1200 block of Peeler Road at 12:51 a.m. on January 31. Residents are advised to secure their vehicles as the total estimated loss from these incidents remains alarming.
Shoplifting incidents have surged, with notable thefts in the 1500 block of Jake Alexander Boulevard South and the 300 block of South Arlington Street. The most recent theft on February 2 resulted in an estimated loss of $56. Another shoplifting report cited losses totaling $61, highlighting a troubling trend in retail crime.
In addition to thefts, assaults have also been documented. An assault occurred in the 1500 block of Bringle Ferry Road on January 29, reported to authorities the following day. Another serious incident unfolded on February 1 when a man was charged with felony assault by strangulation.
Notable arrests include Julia Elizabeth Clawson, 35, charged with felony abuse and neglect of a patient on February 3, and David Lee Winecoff, 37, facing multiple felony charges related to vehicle theft and breaking and entering. These arrests reflect ongoing efforts by law enforcement to tackle crime in the area.
Authorities also reported incidents of fraud and vandalism, including credit card fraud at Pop Stirewalt Road between January 23 and January 28 and vandalism at Kress Venture Drive on January 29. Residents are encouraged to report any suspicious activity to help maintain safety in their neighborhoods.
