Urgent: Cover Your Acres Conference Set for Jan. 20-21 in Oberlin

UPDATE: The highly anticipated Cover Your Acres Winter Conference is set to take place on January 20-21, 2024, at the Gateway Civic Center in Oberlin, Kansas. This annual event, now in its 23rd year, will bring together producers, consultants, and experts to discuss critical agricultural economic topics that are shaping the industry today.

With farmers facing pressing challenges related to weed management, soil fertility, and the current economic climate, this conference is a must-attend. Stacy Campbell, a Crop Production Agent at K-State Extension, emphasized the relevance of these discussions, stating, “Weed management, soil fertility — and economics, of course — are always on farmers’ minds.”

Key sessions will feature esteemed speakers including Sarah Lancaster, a K-State weed management specialist, and Jeanne Falk Jones, KSU NW Agronomist. They will delve into innovative strategies for cropping rotations and the effective use of targeted herbicide applications in Kansas.

The conference will also tackle essential economic topics with sessions like Meeting Crop Nutrient Needs in Lean Economic Times led by Dorivar Ruiz-Diaz and Dan O’Brien, both specialists from K-State Research and Extension. Additionally, nationally renowned Ag Law and Taxation expert Roger McEowen will address the “Top Five Legal Issues Farmers Don’t Think About, But Should,” providing crucial insights for attendees.

Participants can also look forward to navigating future challenges in agriculture with Jennifer Ifft, who will focus on Navigating the 2026 Crop Insurance Decisions with SCO and ECO. The conference will highlight the importance of utilizing crop rotations, featuring insights from Lucas Haag and Augustine Obour on intensifying crop rotations and incorporating forages into dryland systems.

Both days will offer the same programs, making it easier for attendees to catch all sessions. Registration opens at 7:45 a.m. and educational sessions conclude at 5 p.m.

Early registration is available until January 14 for a fee of $60 for the first day, $55 for the second, or $80 for both days. After this date, the cost will rise to $80 per day. This fee includes lunch, refreshments, and educational materials.
