UPDATE: A man wanted for murder has been arrested in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles, after his car was found abandoned in Calabasas. Alexander Lee Rogers, aged 51, was taken into custody by the Los Angeles Police Department just yesterday, following a brutal stabbing incident that left one victim dead.
The violence occurred last Tuesday, July 10, 2023, at approximately noon in Longview, Washington. Authorities report that Rogers allegedly attacked 73-year-old Andrew Peters and his sister-in-law, 64-year-old Dawn Peters. Tragically, Dawn succumbed to her injuries while Andrew survived. Family friend Jill Nunes expressed the devastation felt by the family: “This is unimaginable heartbreak. Every family member is devastated; everyone is grieving in a different way.”
The motive for the attack remains unclear, with investigators noting that it appears unprovoked. “This is a horrific case,” stated Capt. Brandon McNew of the Longview Police Department. Rogers was reportedly known to the victims through an old family connection and had recently done handyman work at their residence after being released from a 20-year prison sentence for attempted murder.
Just two hours prior to the stabbing, police had encountered Rogers in a parking lot, where he was issued a verbal warning regarding vehicle licensing issues. There was no indication of criminal behavior at that time. Following the attack, Rogers fled Washington, driving over 1,000 miles before abandoning his vehicle in Southern California.
On Monday, July 11, 2023, Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies discovered a car matching Rogers’ description parked near a hiking trail in the 23000 block of Calabasas Road. His arrest marks a significant development in a case that has shocked both the local community and the victims’ family.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances leading to the brutal attack and urge anyone with additional information to come forward. This case highlights the urgent need for community awareness and support for victims of violence.
